Affiliation...

Shito-Ryu International Karate Do Kai often receives inquiries regarding membership to our organization. The easiest way to join our Shito-Ryu is to visit one of our branch dojos to become a student. You will begin as a white belt student under the guidance of a Shihan or Sensei. If you are an instructor with a dojo and you wish to affiliate with our organization, please take note of the following:

  • 1. Shito-Ryu International Karate Do Kai is a traditional karate organization, not a 'sport karate' organization.
    • The late founder, Kenwa Mabuni, and the late Soke, Kenzo Mabuni, were never affiliated with any sport karate organization.
  • 2. If there is already a Shito-Ryu International Karate Do Kai branch in your country, you must apply for
    • affiliation through them. To check if there is already an established branch in your country, click the top page of this web. If there is no affiliated branch in your country, please first contact the address below. Depending on the circumstances, you may need to travel to Japan at your expense, or invite a Shihan appointed by Soke Tsukasa Mabuni to your dojo at your expense.
  • 3. After joining, your current rank will be used as a reference, and you must be willing to take a
    • grading examination and obtain a new rank (possibly a lower rank in some cases).
  • 4. After sufficient communication, the Supreme Council will decide whether to grant associate membership.
    • Associate membership has limitations and is valid for two years. After two years of continuous associate membership, the Supreme Council will decide whether to grant full membership.
  • 5. If you wish to apply, please first contact us by letter or email. Please send a recent photograph of yourself .
    • and information regarding your karate history (please attach certified copies of all rank certificates) to the address below.
