Soke

 Greetings

Shito-Ryu 3rd Soke, Mabuni Tsukasa

I am Mabuni Tsukasa, the 3rd Soke of Shito-Ryu. The Shito-Ryu International Karate Do Kai website was established for those around the world who love Shito-Ryu Karate Do to share the essence of Karate Do, share the results of their daily training, and improve together. I hope that this website will serve as a tool for people around the world to connect with each other and to obtain new information. It is also linked to the Nippon Karate Do Kai website.

Japanese Budo(martial arts)emphasize conduct and "Kata" in Budo, aiming for character development through the training of mind and body. This is not intended to determine superiority or inferiority in sports competitions. Therefore, in Japanese Budo, each school has its own unique "Kata" and Kata system. The "Kata" of Shito-Ryu Karate Do contain an infinite amount of wisdom and techniques that have been passed down through generations, providing practitioners with a wealth of knowledge to acquire.

Sharing the essence of Karate means accepting the wisdom and spirit of our predecessors embodied in the "Kata" and movements of Karate, and mutually improving our minds and techniques as we walk the "Way" together.

The founder of Shito-Ryu Karate Do, "Kenwa Mabuni," inherited the Itosu-ha, Shuri-te, from "Anko Itosu." After that, he also mastered the Naha-te and "Higaonna Kanryo'' schools. He received the initials of both Itosu Sensei and Higaonna Sensei, incorporating his own kata and techniques, and named himself “Shito-Ryu”.The philosophy is to cultivate rationality and agility and train physical strength through training that makes the most of characteristics of both schools, without confusing the two schools.Shito-Ryu Karate Do does not have flashy movements, but it is based on the practice of living kata that understand the content of the technique. At present, the Nippon Karate Do Kai conducts research into the content of kata at Shito-Ryu Technical Training Workshops, theoretically investigates the techniques, and practices them as disassembled Kumite, so that future generations will be able to pass on the correct "Shito-Ryu Karate Do." We are working to pass on our philosophy and technology.

Kenwa Mabuni, the founder of the Shito-Ryu Karate Do, devoted his whole life to the development of Karate Do, leaving behind words that expressed his view of training during his daily training.

"Kenzo Mabuni" , the second Soke of Shito-Ryu Karate Do, came to Osaka from Okinawa with his father, ”Kenwa Mabuni”, and his family in 1929. From an early age, he was taught Karate by the founder of ”Kenwa Mabuni”and inherited the techniques of Shito-Ryu. After Kenwa's death, he devoted himself to passing down the teachings he had inherited from his father, Kenwa, as Soke at the dojo that still remains today as the headquarters of Nippon Karate-Do Kai and Shito-Ryu International Karate Do Kai.
With the spirit of the Five Principles of Shito-Ryu Karate Do, he passed on the spirit of Budo through Shito-Ryu Karate Do to many people in Japan and abroad.Today, the 3rd Soke, Tsukasa Mabuni , is continuing his legacy and working with many people, including Shihan from various countries, to promote and develop Shito-Ryu Karate Do.
